Overview[edit | edit source]

Created by advanced Artificers through the use of Sigil Scribing, an Arcane Tocsin is a powerful item that has the ability to accurately detect magic users within ten feet of its presence. A singular blood-red garnet marble, intricately Sigil Scribed and pressed into a carved stone base.

When the tocsin is brought within ten feet of an active magic user, the marble begins to glow and spin, giving off an immense heat that results in the carved stone being heated as well. The Arcane Tocsin reacts to simply Gifted individuals as well, though this reaction is barely noticeable as the marble does not glow and only rolls slowly.

The marble itself seems to float undisturbed within the stone base, and if touched will barely jostle within the socket, simply rolling about. The marble cannot be removed from the stone base unless the stone itself is broken, though the ability of the marble will not remain after destroying the base.

Origin[edit | edit source]

Though the origins of the Arcane Tocsin are unknown, the item is mentioned heavily throughout Aurosi history, with specific ties to both ancient Rune'Daathian and Nobugohito cultures alike.

History[edit | edit source]

Though the Arcane Tocsin has gained quite a negative reputation in years following the persecution of mages within Ulyssa, the Arcane Tocsin has been historically used to determine if young children had the Gift in a non-intrusive manner.

Commonality[edit | edit source]

Arcane Tocsins are quite a quite a rare sight within Aevonhold, their creation is a volatile process, often resulting in drastic consequences while attempting to Sigil Scribe the small marble with powerful magics. Due to this, much of their creation and distribution is limited to Ulyssa for use by the Venator to hunt magic users.
