History[edit | edit source]
Demaim began as a minor trading hub and farming community along the Nibinene River. However, over the past hundred years, the modest town has been transformed into a vibrant city. Waves of Ulyssians have migrated from the eastern borders as Nobugo claims more and more territory. The waves of workers and the need to re-center the location of the Greater Forum of Barantium propelled Demaim into the force it is today.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Demaim is located in central Barantium. With the current borders, Demaim rests, approximately, in the center of the province. Demaim is built around the Nibinene River, which merges into the Cerullis River. The surrounding land is arable, but it not as fertile as other parts of the province.
Government[edit | edit source]
Demaim hosts the Barantine Greater Forum, making it an important political center for the province. The government of Demaim is notably egalitarian while still following the structure of Gallonese Code in their law. For instance, the Praetor appoints an administrator over Demaim after hearing council from the citizens. The administrator will hold another council if the administrator or the people are not satisfied.
Famously, the inclusion of the people in the process has resulted in numerous, terrible instances in history where uncouth or more radical leaders have risen at the behest of the people and were harder to depose. This has, more than most settlements in Barantium, made Demaim less sworn to uphold more egalitarian principles; instead, the city has fashioned a blend of Barantine and Gallonese politics.

Economy[edit | edit source]
Demaim's central location in Barantium makes it a hub of trade within the province. The city features a dizzying number of stalls in its markets, spread flat along roads of coarse dirt and gravel. Boats and ships travel upstream to purchase the crops and cheap woolen clothing traded in the city.
The Barantine Greater Forum is also held in Demaim, and the number of people drawn also gives Demaim a part-time tourism economy. The city holds a market festival which coincides which each meeting.
