Evergreen Crossing
History[edit | edit source]
Originally constructed as a small wooden fort in a vain attempt to defend against Saint-King Alen Capewell’s invading armies, the current iteration of Evergreen Keep is simply the last in a long line of castles that have shared its name and location. When Alen had conquered the Arbor, he and his men noted the excellent defensive position their adversary’s fort had stood on and implored the populace to construct a stone fortress in its place to serve as both a way to safeguard the mountain pass and to remind the locals of his victory.
The town did not come about until much later, only having been founded in the late Third Era. Inhospitable terrain and a lack of natural resources were the main causes of this, with many pioneers venturing further into the Arbor to settle. It was not until the discovery of iron and gold veins in the nearby hills by House Tucker that Evegreen Crossing rose to prominence, quickly growing to become Wood's Hall’s largest mining community.
Geography[edit | edit source]
The town of Evergreen Crossing is located at one of the most strategic points in the Arbor, being situated at the confluence of two rivers that themselves are composed of many smaller tributary mountain streams originating from the Bastion mountain range. It is also the closest town to the Verdant Pass that links the Arbor to the rest of Alenthyl. On one of the Bastion’s foothills sits Evergreen Keep, its elevated position allowing the men stationed there to easily monitor any traffic travelling through the town.
Government[edit | edit source]
Evergreen Crossing has traditionally never been ruled from within its own walls, but rather from the county’s seat of Evergreen Keep, a sturdy and rather imposing castle made of stone and wood beautifully intertwined with each other. The castle enjoys a clear view of both the Verdant Pass leading into the Bastion mountain range, as well as the town below, and serves as the residence for both the Earl’s family and various other minor nobles who own large tracts of wilderness around the town.
Economy[edit | edit source]
Mining and trade form the bulk of Evergreen Crossing’s commerce sector, owing to the many mines dotting the surrounding landscape and its location at the very apex of the Arbor respectively.
