Appearance[edit | edit source]

Unlike the other plants of significance in Kotimaa, this tree actually blends in very well with the forests that thrive in the snowy landscape. The trees themselves look just like all the other pines in the forests. It has worth from the unique pine cones and pine nuts it grows.

Unlike the pine cones and pine nuts from the other trees, both from the Holy Father’s Pine are found to be either entirely white or transparent.

Notes[edit | edit source]

There is a tradition with Holy Father's pine cones in which they are gathered for the crossing of souls celebration and burned in the fires that cook the meals. It gives off a light, sweet scent and can sometimes slightly affect the color of the fires. When this occurs many of the faith of Äiti ja Isä tend to believe it means a soul is interacting with the realm of the living.

Culinary[edit | edit source]

The pine nuts grown on these trees are gathered with the pine cones to be cooked for the feasts of various different holidays and gatherings in Kotimaa. When cooked, the pine nuts turn a gold brown color, losing their transparency. They’re often baked into bread or eaten as a side dish and are believed to help young men grow strong.

The pine nuts have a mildly bitter flavor, but when cooked have a complex, almost dry sweetness to them.
