Geography[edit | edit source]
Wedged between the peaks of the Bastion mountain range, the sea and the dense heartland forests of Nature's Retreat, the county of Wood’s Hall is host to a variety of environments. The north has a rocky coast cleaved by numerous inlets and coves, not dissimilar to the coast of Rollen. To the west lie the foothills of the Bastion, completely covered with tall grass and occasionally small groups of trees.
The west is also home to the entrance of Verdant Pass, two connected major river valleys that form one of the few reliable ways to travel across the Bastion. Close to the pass stands an old, dilapidated wooden hall from which the county takes its name. To the south and east lie expansive forests that link up with the darker, more dense forests of the heartlands.
People[edit | edit source]
Wood’s Hall is often said to be an inhospitable, backwater county that has no real value compared to the lumber industry of Nature’s Retreat or the profitable trade services of Rollen. However, the border with The Crags is rich in ores, and numerous independent miners have settled there to seek their fortune in the rocks. Not everyone is lucky enough to hit a profitable vein though, and as such the population of Wood’s Hall remains among the poorest in all of Alenthyl. The county does, however, feature the most impressive fortification in the entire Arbor-- the hilltop castle of Evergreen Keep.
Ruling Family[edit | edit source]
The current ruling family of Wood’s Hall is House Tucker, who have only recently taken a leadership role following the unexpected death of the previous Earl. Originally a family of miners, the Tuckers were granted nobility for their contributions to discovering the ore veins in the border region of The Arbor and The Crags. Despite their increased wealth, the Tuckers have always remained quite grounded compared to some of the more pompous nobles, and are loved by the smallfolk because of this. However, their attitude is a double-edged sword as they are looked down upon by the other nobles of the Arbor, who view them as weak and incapable-- even some of their own vassals.
