History[edit | edit source]
The Aphradaneum was a project ordered in the year 3E 200 by Emperor Martinus Baldorum to celebrate the centennial. It took 12 years to complete.
Description[edit | edit source]
The Aphradaneum is a great semi-circular amphitheater located in Rhold, the capital of Ulyssa. The amphitheater is the largest ever built in Aevonhold, built from concrete (a mixture of quicklime, pozzolana and an aggregate of pumice) and sand. The Aphradaneum has not weathered the years well, and a significant portion of the western observatory has collapsed. Efforts since have been taken to maintain the amphitheater, but no reconstruction has been attempted.
The Aphradaneum's most stunning feature is its hanging gardens. No less than a dozen gardeners tend to the plants, and the plants are arranged in typical Gallonese fashion. The plants boast Ulyssa's once worldwide influence, containing flora from across Aevonhold. While the number of flora has since declined due to a lack of care, the sight is still impressive.
There are two sections of seating. The high perimeter, where the gardens hang, are home to some of the elite voices. The remainder is for anyone, typically those or low or middle means.
Importance[edit | edit source]
The Aphradaneum is open the the public and hosts a great amount of free entertainment to the public of Gallanon. It not only quells the masses of Ulyssa with blood sport and games, but also reinforces social status and station according to seating arrangements.
